Venture Meeting Minutes
February 7, 1999

Prepared Dutch Oven Meal

The game we played was called “Victim” and Kym taught it to everyone. Ryan held the opening of the meeting at 7:20, he read the Venturing Oath.

First we went over old business which consisted of the minutes from the last meeting and the officers meeting, by Kym, the treasurers report by Brian B, and the report on the snowshoe hike by Dave. He wrote that we had a good time skating on our shoes down the hill and the snowball fight during our lunch break.

New Business was the discussion of uniforms and we selected a chair, Sarah W, Chris B, Kyle L, Brian B, and Shana R. Dave explained how to check prices on all ideas, some ideas were discussed. Polo shirt with windbreaker was one. We also passed around 2 copies of an interest survey and discussed importance of knowing what people want out of Venturing. We also had a lengthy conversation on snow camping, but we decided to go bowling and have a sleep over instead. No one was prepared for winter camping.

We discussed Meeting and Event Announcements. We planned to wait till March for snow camping because there were no cabins available. Cabins fit ten but we can easily fit 15 with people sleeping on the floor. We discussed what we’d do since snow camping was out of the picture. Some ideas were spending the night at Sarah’s grandparent’s ranch, a day hike, bowling from 10pm – 2am and sleeping over at someone’s house, playing in the snow and other camping. We decided we would go bowling and the committee was Kyle, Robbyn and Ryan, Kym and Kyle ended up doing all the work. We briefly talked about the Solvang Century Bike Ride. If you don’t want to ride you can volunteer and you’ll get a free t-shirt and lunch and we will have parents driving in case you feel you can’t finish the ride.

We talked about bylaws and the committee is all the elected leaders.

Crew 464 Minutes
March 7, 1999

David taught us a game called ghost where someone was thinking of a word and would say the first letter and the 2nd person would need to think of a word starting w/ that letter and say the second letter of their word and so on and the point was not to end a word.

Ryan opened the meeting with the Venturing Oath and there was no intro of new members because there were no new members.

With the old business Kym read the minutes of the last crew meeting as well as the last officers meeting and Brian B. gave us the treasury report. He called off the names of the people who needed to bring money from February and registration.

The committees had nothing to report because no work was done from either committee.

Kyle read the bowling critique and said that everyone had fun especially after bowling at the Lukers’ house when playing twister, it was mentioned that we should do this activity again.

For the Calendar Review Robbyn gave us information of the dates we were having our hikes to prepare for the Death Valley hike. The three hikes are the 27th of March, and the 3 and 17 of April. We talked about Solvang and explained in detail what would be going on.

For new business we were supposed to have a log cabin presentation but it didn’t work out so we discussed the two options of summer camp. We also handed out the ranger guides to those members who paid their registration fees and discussed fund raising. We came up with a few ideas such as a Carwash, Bake Sale, Yard Sale, Christmas Tree Lot, Sponsorships, Pancake Breakfast, Run-a-thon, Pizza and hot dog sales in front of stores. We also had an activity interest survey. We wrote down all the ideas although some absurd, and hope to discuss them and plan some of them for the future.

Crew Meeting
April 15, 1999

Fischer’s House

The game was taking poll pictures for winners of the popularity poll. Half the pictures were taken.

The meeting started at 7:12. The venturing oath was read by everyone, and there were no new members. Kym read the minutes from the last meeting and Brian did a treasury report. He made announcements on who owed dues from previous months.

Robbyn read a calendar review of past event critiques. She said it was fun, it would have been nice to stay at the rock longer and maybe next time we could bring rockclimbing equipment.

Future events will be a Death Valley backpack from 4/30-5/2 and a round table presentation for Leave No Trace. There was also a garage sale and a meeting the weekend of May 15-16 and training backpacks June 11-13 and July 9-11. Danny is the chairperson for Log Cabin.

Committees did side meetings for 10 minutes or so and nothing was reported.

The new business was an A-16 sale from 5/1 to 5/9.

A reminder was the last thing on the list for everyone attending Death Valley to get permission slips and to be at the Rozelle’s at 5:00.

Crew Meeting
May 16, 1999

Lukers House

Kyle ordered pizza and everyone sat down right away to start the meeting so we could play games after. We discussed the last 5 months and what everyone liked and disliked. Every event we did was mentioned in having fun. We spent waaay to long having a meeting for a party meeting so next time I purpose kids run 20 minute meeting and play games for longer time…hehehe.

Officer patches were given out to everyone but the president and thank you notes were handed to those drivers of Death Valley and the co-chairs of the garage sale. After the meeting, we ate our pizza and immediately started playing sardines, after a while, we ate dessert and played some more. Everyone had fun, we should have more party meetings.
