Preamble

Venturing Oath
As a Venturer, I promise to help strengthen America, to be faithful in my religious duties, to help others, and to seek truth, fairness, and adventure in our world.

Venturing Code

As a Venturer, I believe that America’s strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people.
I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life.
I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it.
I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life.
I will acquire the Venturing attitude that seeks the truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing world.
 

Crew Bylaws

Objectives
The objectives of Crew No. 464 are:
1. To always put fun as the main objective in everything we do.
2. To experience and participate in High Adventure activities.
3. To always share opinions, ideas, and thoughts to help influence the outcome of a Crew decision.
4. Have at least one meeting or activity beyond the regular scheduled meeting every month
5. Have a least one Super-Activity per year

Membership
Membership shall be open to all young adults of high school age who must be at least 14 years of age and have completed the eighth grade. No prospective member shall be disqualified because of race, color, creed, or sex. All members must be registered as Venturers and agree to the Crew oath, code, and bylaws.
Charter
Venturing Crew 464 shall hold its charter to the American Legion Post #826, Woodland Hills, California. We shall abide by any rules or requests that our charter organization makes of us. The charter organization representative shall handle communication between the charter organization and Venturing Crew 464.
Officers
The elected officers shall be:
· President
· Vice President - Administration
· Vice President – Program
· Secretary
· Treasurer
The crew president, with the approval of the senior crew advisor, shall appoint activity chairs and make other assignments as needed. The duties of the officers shall be as stated in the Venturing Leader Manual. (Other duties may be assigned as needed.) (Additional positions considered include: Grubmaster, Webmaster and Quartermaster.)
The normal term of office shall be for six months starting on October 1 and March 1. Elections shall be held in the month prior to the start of the new terms.
No member shall serve more than two successive terms in the same office.
The President shall appoint a nominating committee, which shall consist of three members. The committee shall interview and present a complete slate of candidates who have agreed, if elected, to serve to the best of their abilities.
On the night of the election, any member may present nominations from the floor. If the nomination is seconded and the candidate agrees to serve, he or she must be included on the ballot.
All contested ballots shall be secret
Crew business
Crew business will be conducted under the principles outlined in Robert’s Rules of Order. Voting on all issues will be by simple majority, with the exception of changes or amendments to the bylaws. For regular meeting business a small quorum of 5 crew members will be required. For specially scheduled meetings a quorum of a majority of the active membership will be required.
Changes or amendments to the bylaws will require a two-thirds vote of those present and voting if prior notice of the proposed amendment has been given, OR a straight majority vote of the total active membership with or without prior notice given.
Active membership is defined as those crew members who are currently registered and are no more than three months behind in their dues and activity fee payments.
General Meetings
General meetings will be held during the first and third week of each month. The day and time of the meetings will be determined by a vote of the membership at the beginning or each school year. The presidents as needed may adjust the meeting schedule or schedule additional meetings.
 
Officers’ Meeting
Officer’s Meetings will be held at least once a month, prior to and at a time and different place from the first Crew meeting of that month. The presidents with the consultation of the Advisors will schedule officers’ Meetings.
Newsletter and Mailings
The Crew will distribute at least one (1) mailing and/or newsletter each month, which shall include all meeting dates and other information of interest to the membership. The mailing will serve as the historical record of the crew. Mailings will be distributed by the best means possible. (Email/P.O.)
The Venturing Crew 464 Web Site
The Venturing Crew 60 Web Site shall be maintained and organized by the Webmaster. New updates to the site must occur within 2 days of a meeting or activity. It is the Webmaster’s responsibility to keep the site looking clean and up to the BSA standards.
Dues
Dues for youth will be $5 per month, payable quarterly or at any time before or within the current calendar quarter. Yearly dues for Advisors and adult leaders will be $10 to cover re-registration and insurance fees. The treasurer will collect dues. There will be a one-time joining/registration fee of $25, due when a new crew member or adult leader submits his or her application for membership. Members delinquent in dues payments by three months, will be declared "inactive" on the Crew roster. An inactive member will have to bring his or her dues payments up-to-date before being allowed to participate in crew activities. Members delinquent in dues payments by six months or more will be dropped from the crew roster after notification by the treasurer of the delinquency. Dues cover national registration fees, additional medical insurance, and funds for the crews operating expenses. Crew members living away from the Woodland Hills area while attending college can request to be placed upon in a "Reserve Crew" status. While in Reserve status they will be kept on the crew roster, but will not owe quarterly dues, but will have to pay a yearly re-registration fee of $10, will be due on December 1.
Money-Earning Projects
All money-earning projects must be approved by a majority vote of the crew members. Members who do not participate in a project are not entitled to any benefits of the funds earned. All money-earning projects must be approved by the Advisors and meet BSA (Boy Scouts of America) requirements.
Attendance and Expectations
All members are expected to attend at least one meeting per month. If a member cannot make a meeting for any reason, they must accept the responsibility to call or e-mail the Crew presidents and inform them of their absence. If a member misses more than 4 consecutive meetings without cause, that member will be given one chance before being declared "inactive" on the Crew roster. Also, each Crew member is encouraged to attend every outing. Members who are excessively absent from Crew outings will be subject to a conference with the Head Crew Advisor and the Presidents.
Officers’ Attendance
Officers are expected to attend every meeting, including the Officers’ Meeting, which is separate from the regular Crew monthly meetings. If any officer misses more than four consecutive meetings with or without cause, their position shall be declared vacant and an election shall be held to fill the position. Exceptions may be made if pre-approved by all other elected officers.
Youth Drivers
Venturing members may drive to events as long as they are applicable by BSA standards featured on the Tour Permit. Current BSA requirements include:
· All travel to a Venturing event will be under the leadership of an adult (at least 21 years of age) tour leader
· All drivers must:
a. Be at least 16 years old
b. Have had at least six months driving experience (learner’s permit experience not counted)
c. Have NOT been in an accident
d. Have NOT received any violations
e. Have written parental permission to drive
f. Have written parental permission from parents of the passengers
Dress Code
The dress code is as follows: For all meetings and private Crew events, no uniform will be needed. For any event in the public eye, where we are representatives of Crew 464, the American Legion Post, Boy Scouts of America and/or Venturing, a Class "A" crew shirts MUST be worn. Along with the shirts, khaki-colored shorts or pants will be worn. Our objective is to look good and give a good presentation.
Class A uniform shirts can be one of the following:
Class A1 – Green button collared BSA Venturing shirts (with appropriate patches)
(required by officers for Round Table, and other official Scout council & district
functions)
Class A2 – Crew464 forest green polo shirt with embroidered Crew464 patch.
Class B uniforms for informal crew activities
Venturing or Scout T-shirts
 
Co-ed Behavior
All crew members, youth and adult, will be cognizant of the fact that both sexes are present for all functions. Co-ed behavior expectations include the following:
· Use common sense
· Be respectful and considerate of each other
· No entering the domiciles (tents, rooms, etc.) of the opposite gender
· Respect opposite gender "nature calls" in the backcountry (i.e. "males to the left and females to the right" or as determined appropriate at the time)
· No public display of affection (pda) at ANY crew activities (i.e. kissing, handholding)
· No co-ed "buddies", unless three or more members are present
